Fascia and Tongue Tie

If you’ve been to one of my classes or scrolled through my yoga Insta page you probably know I’m kind of obsessed with fascia. This connective tissue supports and links everything in the body, and I first really dove into it during my Yoga Medicine training. Since then, it’s been a huge part of my thinking about movement and healing.

But recently, fascia became personal in a whole new way.

In February, we became grandparents, and sweet Baby Miller has already taught us more than we could’ve imagined. About a month in, though, something felt very off with him. He was rarely comfortable—his body felt stiff, feedings were a legitimate struggle because he couldn't latch properly, and he had colic. The only time he was calm was when he was sleeping. It was stressful to watch, especially for Caroline and Adam.

After spending countless hours googling colic and feeding issues and visiting a baby chiropractor, Caro and Adam discovered he had significant tongue and lip ties. These might sound like minor issues, but they were having a big impact because everything in the body is connected through fascia—even the tongue! These tiny restrictions created tension throughout his entire system.

Caroline and Adam decided to move forward with a frenectomy to release both ties. Honestly? The difference was almost immediate. He fed better, his body softened, the colic disappeared—and we finally got to meet the calm, happy baby hiding under all that tension.

What looked like a simple procedure turned out to be a whole-body reset. It felt like watching fascia work its magic in real time.

This experience reminded me once again how deeply interconnected our bodies are. Healing often comes through softening, letting go, and releasing.

And sometimes, even the tiniest shift can open the door to transformation.
